On LUVMI-X one of the novel instruments is called VOILA, which is short for Volatiles Identification by Laser Ablation. This means, by quickly firing a laser, at a regolith in the line of sight, a plume is created and analysed. It’s a pretty interesting way to potentially identify water on the moon.
In this short video series, LUVMI-X partners talk about their roles in producing and testing the LUVMI-X VOILA instrument.
